In 20816, 98 of every 100 single-family houses are detached, and the 1950s were the biggest building decade. A Bethesda display is usually one house and one plan, with no party wall to stop at and no neighbor’s roofline to match.
Lighting homes in Bethesda
Bethesda houses mostly stand on their own, so the display is entirely your call. What it should look like depends a lot on whether the house is from the 1950s or went up after 2000.
The 1950s were the biggest building decade in both 20816 and 20817, and in 20816 about two homes in three predate 1970. Houses from that era have usually been reroofed more than once, and many have a chimney, a porch or a rear addition under a lower roof. Each of those is a separate line to light or leave dark, and it is worth deciding which before anyone climbs.
Bethesda is also changing lot by lot. More than a fifth of the homes in 20817 were built in 2000 or later, and in 20814 the 2010s were the biggest single decade. A newer house next to a 1950s one can be a very different shape, so we plan from your house rather than from the street. Because almost every house is detached, there is rarely anyone else’s roofline to work around.
Some streets carry history. Part of Greenwich Forest, between Old Georgetown Road and Bradley Boulevard, is a county historic district, and Carderock Springs, the modernist subdivision built between 1962 and 1966, is on the National Register. On houses like those we look at the roof material first and keep the plan to the lines that suit the house, and we tell you honestly if a simpler display would look better.

Planned around your house
Tell us how much or how little you want. Some people want the roofline and nothing else. Others want the whole front of the house. The plan and the price are in writing before anything goes up.
Why a roofer
Most of the damage from Christmas lights is not visible until spring. These are the things we see on roofs after the decorations come down.
We are a roofing company first. If something looks wrong after the season, we can inspect the roof for free and photograph what we find.
Installation and maintenance
Call or send the form with your address and what you would like lit. A rough idea is enough to start.
We check the roofline, the roof surface and where the power will come from, then put the plan and the price in writing.
Licensed, insured roofers working at height every week of the year, not a seasonal crew borrowed for December.
If a section goes dark, call us and we arrange a visit to put it right.
Neighborhoods, roads and ZIPs
Bethesda mail is mainly 20814, 20816 and 20817. Those ZIPs also take in parts of North Bethesda, Potomac, Cabin John and Brookmont, all in Montgomery County.

“It’s been great working with Dmitry and Bravo roofing for several years now. They did a full tear off and replace of my flat roof back in 2019. I had a leak last year and Dmitry came out to inspect. He found that an old roof antenna had fallen off and punctured it.”
Tony DeBraccio · Google“I highly recommend Bravo for any kind of roof repair or construction. Dmitry, the business owner, is meticulous and detailed. He personally assessed the leaking overhang roof in our old house and delivered a thorough and economical solution.”
Google review · verified“Very professional, reasonably priced, quick and did a great job. 10/10”

Often, but they are separate decisions. A low porch roof is easy to reach and frames the front door well. A chimney depends on how it is built and what shape the flashing around it is in. We look at both and tell you what we would light and what we would leave alone.
It is different rather than harder. The neighborhood was built as a group between 1962 and 1966, and the houses have their own lines. We look at your roof and its material before quoting, plan around the lines that suit the architecture, and tell you honestly if a lighter display would serve the house better than a full outline.
It depends on how many feet of roofline and gutter are being lit, how high and steep the roof is, and what else is on the plan, such as trees, windows or a walkway. We look at the house first and give you the price in writing, so you are comparing a real number rather than a per-foot estimate that grows on the day.
It should not, and as a roofing company it is the part we care most about. Nothing should be fastened through your shingles, and nobody should be leaning a ladder on your gutters. If you want to know exactly how your roofline will be attached, ask us before the install and we will walk you through it.
If a strand or a section of your display stops working during the season, call us on (410) 977-4411 and we will arrange a visit to put it right. The details for your house are confirmed in your written quote.
Yes. Bravo Roofing is a licensed Maryland home improvement contractor, MHIC #114601, carrying $1,000,000 in liability coverage plus workers compensation. The same people who replace roofs across Baltimore are the ones on yours.
Earlier is better. Installation dates fill as the season gets closer, so calling in the fall gives you the widest choice of dates. Call (410) 977-4411 for the current schedule.
