Home › Christmas light installation › College Park
College Park is mostly detached houses, and about 63% of households in 20740 rent. Before a display goes up we want to know whose roof it is, and on the older streets between the railroad and Baltimore Avenue, what it is made of.
Lighting homes in College Park
In 20740 there are 5,124 detached houses and only 383 attached ones. A College Park display is usually one whole house, and in a town where most households rent, the first question is who owns it.
About 63% of households in 20740 rent, and many of them live in detached houses. If you are a tenant who wants lights, the roof belongs to the owner, so we ask that they agree before anyone goes up a ladder. If you own a house you rent out, the same goes in reverse. Once the display is up, either of you can call if a section goes dark during the season, and we will arrange a visit.
The neighborhoods between the railroad and Baltimore Avenue go back a long way: Berwyn to 1885, Lakeland to 1890, Daniels Park to 1905. Calvert Hills was mostly built in the early 1940s, with Colonial, Cape Cod and Victorian houses on the same streets. A Cape Cod and a Victorian next door to each other need different plans, and on the oldest houses we look at the roof itself before deciding anything.
Old Town College Park, platted in 1889, is a historic district. Its design guidelines say asphalt is the most common roof there, alongside metal, tile, wood shingle and slate, and that slate often outlasts the nails holding it. Slate like that should not be walked on or fastened to. Shed and flat roofs on porches and rear additions are common too, and a porch roof can be the simplest way to light the front of an older house.
Housing figures are from published census data for ZIP 20740, which also covers Berwyn Heights and parts of Beltsville and Greenbelt. Old Town details per the district’s design guidelines.

Planned around your house
Tell us how much or how little you want. Some people want the roofline and nothing else. Others want the whole front of the house. The plan and the price are in writing before anything goes up.
Why a roofer
Most of the damage from Christmas lights is not visible until spring. These are the things we see on roofs after the decorations come down.
We are a roofing company first. If something looks wrong after the season, we can inspect the roof for free and photograph what we find.
Installation and maintenance
Call or send the form with your address and what you would like lit. A rough idea is enough to start.
We check the roofline, the roof surface and where the power will come from, then put the plan and the price in writing.
Licensed, insured roofers working at height every week of the year, not a seasonal crew borrowed for December.
If a section goes dark, call us and we arrange a visit to put it right.
Neighborhoods, roads and ZIPs
20740 covers most of College Park, and also Berwyn Heights and parts of Beltsville and Greenbelt. All of it is Prince George’s County, but not all of it is inside the city.

“It’s been great working with Dmitry and Bravo roofing for several years now. They did a full tear off and replace of my flat roof back in 2019. I had a leak last year and Dmitry came out to inspect. He found that an old roof antenna had fallen off and punctured it.”
Tony DeBraccio · Google“I highly recommend Bravo for any kind of roof repair or construction. Dmitry, the business owner, is meticulous and detailed. He personally assessed the leaking overhang roof in our old house and delivered a thorough and economical solution.”
Google review · verified“Very professional, reasonably priced, quick and did a great job. 10/10”

Yes, with the owner’s agreement. The roof belongs to them, so we ask that they are on board before anyone goes up. After that it works the same as any other house: if a section goes dark during the season, either you or the owner can call and we arrange a visit.
Usually some of it can. The district’s guidelines point out that slate often outlasts its original nails and flashing, which means old slate can be loose as well as brittle. We do not walk on it or fasten anything to it. We look at the house and suggest what can be lit instead, often the porch roof, the eaves and the landscaping.
It depends on how many feet of roofline and gutter are being lit, how high and steep the roof is, and what else is on the plan, such as trees, windows or a walkway. We look at the house first and give you the price in writing, so you are comparing a real number rather than a per-foot estimate that grows on the day.
It should not, and as a roofing company it is the part we care most about. Nothing should be fastened through your shingles, and nobody should be leaning a ladder on your gutters. If you want to know exactly how your roofline will be attached, ask us before the install and we will walk you through it.
If a strand or a section of your display stops working during the season, call us on (410) 977-4411 and we will arrange a visit to put it right. The details for your house are confirmed in your written quote.
Yes. Bravo Roofing is a licensed Maryland home improvement contractor, MHIC #114601, carrying $1,000,000 in liability coverage plus workers compensation. The same people who replace roofs across Baltimore are the ones on yours.
Earlier is better. Installation dates fill as the season gets closer, so calling in the fall gives you the widest choice of dates. Call (410) 977-4411 for the current schedule.
