Home › Christmas light installation › Baltimore
Half the housing in Baltimore City is attached, and many rowhouses have flat or shed roofs nobody sees from the sidewalk. On a rowhouse the display is mostly about the front of the house, and about the block it sits on.
Lighting homes in Baltimore
Mount Washington shares ZIP 21209 with parts of Pikesville, so Baltimore City starts close to our office. Most of what we light here is attached: rowhouses where your roofline runs straight into your neighbor’s.
Census figures put single-family attached homes at just over half of all housing in the city, and detached houses at about one in seven. On a row, the roofline is one long line shared by every house on the block, so a display that stops at your party wall should stop there on purpose. A word with the neighbors first is worth it, whether they want to match your lights or would rather keep their stretch dark.
The city’s preservation guidelines note that many rowhouses have shed or slanted-flat roofs, and that many have a single gutter carrying the whole roof. A flat membrane roof is not a place to fasten anything, and from the street nobody can see it anyway. On those houses the lights go mostly on the front of the house, and the roof and its one gutter are left clear to do their job.
The stock is old. Around 41% of homes in the city were built in 1939 or earlier, and Canton, Hampden, Federal Hill, Fells Point, Roland Park and Mount Washington are all city historic districts. Hampden’s small two-story rowhouses are brick or stone, and old masonry deserves care. We look at the house before quoting and tell you plainly what can be lit, and how.
Housing figures are from the U.S. Census Bureau American Community Survey (2020–2024 5-year) for Baltimore city. Historic district details per Baltimore City CHAP.

Planned around your house
Tell us how much or how little you want. Some people want the roofline and nothing else. Others want the whole front of the house. The plan and the price are in writing before anything goes up.
Why a roofer
Most of the damage from Christmas lights is not visible until spring. These are the things we see on roofs after the decorations come down.
We are a roofing company first. If something looks wrong after the season, we can inspect the roof for free and photograph what we find.
Installation and maintenance
Call or send the form with your address and what you would like lit. A rough idea is enough to start.
We check the roofline, the roof surface and where the power will come from, then put the plan and the price in writing.
Licensed, insured roofers working at height every week of the year, not a seasonal crew borrowed for December.
If a section goes dark, call us and we arrange a visit to put it right.
Neighborhoods, roads and ZIPs
Several Baltimore ZIPs cross the city line, including 21206, 21209, 21212, 21224, 21229 and 21239, which all have parts in Baltimore County. Tell us your street address and we will confirm whose rules apply.

“It’s been great working with Dmitry and Bravo roofing for several years now. They did a full tear off and replace of my flat roof back in 2019. I had a leak last year and Dmitry came out to inspect. He found that an old roof antenna had fallen off and punctured it.”
Tony DeBraccio · Google“I highly recommend Bravo for any kind of roof repair or construction. Dmitry, the business owner, is meticulous and detailed. He personally assessed the leaking overhang roof in our old house and delivered a thorough and economical solution.”
Google review · verified“Very professional, reasonably priced, quick and did a great job. 10/10”

Mostly on the front of the house. A flat or shed rowhouse roof cannot be seen from the sidewalk, and a membrane roof is not something to fasten into. The front edge of the roofline, the porch, the windows and the doorway are where a Baltimore display usually goes. We look first and tell you what makes sense for your house.
It is a good idea. On a row the roofline is one continuous line, so your lights end where your house ends unless the house next door joins in. If a few neighbors want a matching run along the block, we are happy to look at the houses together and plan it as one line.
It depends on how many feet of roofline and gutter are being lit, how high and steep the roof is, and what else is on the plan, such as trees, windows or a walkway. We look at the house first and give you the price in writing, so you are comparing a real number rather than a per-foot estimate that grows on the day.
It should not, and as a roofing company it is the part we care most about. Nothing should be fastened through your shingles, and nobody should be leaning a ladder on your gutters. If you want to know exactly how your roofline will be attached, ask us before the install and we will walk you through it.
If a strand or a section of your display stops working during the season, call us on (410) 977-4411 and we will arrange a visit to put it right. The details for your house are confirmed in your written quote.
Yes. Bravo Roofing is a licensed Maryland home improvement contractor, MHIC #114601, carrying $1,000,000 in liability coverage plus workers compensation. The same people who replace roofs across Baltimore are the ones on yours.
Earlier is better. Installation dates fill as the season gets closer, so calling in the fall gives you the widest choice of dates. Call (410) 977-4411 for the current schedule.
