Home › Christmas light installation › Essex
Essex runs down a peninsula between Back River and Middle River, and several of its neighborhoods sit right on the water. A display there has to deal with wind off the river as well as the usual roofline questions.
Lighting homes in Essex
On the waterfront streets in Essex, wind is part of the plan. Roofs closer to open water take more wind than roofs inland, and a run of lights along an edge feels it first.
Back River Highlands, Rockaway Beach and Hyde Park sit right on the water. Roofs there catch more wind than roofs a few streets inland, and the edges and ridge are where it gets a grip. Lights along an exposed eave need to be put up with that wind in mind, and on the most exposed sides the right answer is sometimes a lower line. If a section goes dark during the season, call and we arrange a visit.
About one home in three in 21221 is single-family attached. Middlesex is the clearest example, with close to four homes in five attached, and even Hyde Park, much of it built after 1970, is about 30% attached. On a row the eave line is shared, so your section stops at the party wall. A quick word with the neighbors before the install decides whether the row lights as one line or in pieces.
About 49% of homes in 21221 went up between 1940 and 1969, and Back River Highlands and Martindale are both largely that era, close to the water. Most of those roofs are on their second or third replacement. Before anything runs along an edge on a house that age, we look at what earlier crews left there, because an older frame and real wind exposure on the same roof is where small problems start.

Planned around your house
Tell us how much or how little you want. Some people want the roofline and nothing else. Others want the whole front of the house. The plan and the price are in writing before anything goes up.
Why a roofer
Most of the damage from Christmas lights is not visible until spring. These are the things we see on roofs after the decorations come down.
We are a roofing company first. If something looks wrong after the season, we can inspect the roof for free and photograph what we find.
Installation and maintenance
Call or send the form with your address and what you would like lit. A rough idea is enough to start.
We check the roofline, the roof surface and where the power will come from, then put the plan and the price in writing.
Licensed, insured roofers working at height every week of the year, not a seasonal crew borrowed for December.
If a section goes dark, call us and we arrange a visit to put it right.

“It’s been great working with Dmitry and Bravo roofing for several years now. They did a full tear off and replace of my flat roof back in 2019. I had a leak last year and Dmitry came out to inspect. He found that an old roof antenna had fallen off and punctured it.”
Tony DeBraccio · Google“I highly recommend Bravo for any kind of roof repair or construction. Dmitry, the business owner, is meticulous and detailed. He personally assessed the leaking overhang roof in our old house and delivered a thorough and economical solution.”
Google review · verified“Very professional, reasonably priced, quick and did a great job. 10/10”

Wind is the main difference near open water, and it gets a grip at the edges and ridge first. We plan the runs on exposed sides with that in mind, and keep to lower, more sheltered lines where that makes more sense. If a section does go dark during the season, call and we arrange a visit.
Yes. Middlesex row roofs are usually low-slope membrane, so the work is at the front edge rather than across the roof, and nothing goes through the membrane. Because the roofline is shared with the houses on either side, the display looks most finished when the neighbors agree on where it starts and stops.
It depends on how many feet of roofline and gutter are being lit, how high and steep the roof is, and what else is on the plan, such as trees, windows or a walkway. We look at the house first and give you the price in writing, so you are comparing a real number rather than a per-foot estimate that grows on the day.
It should not, and as a roofing company it is the part we care most about. Nothing should be fastened through your shingles, and nobody should be leaning a ladder on your gutters. If you want to know exactly how your roofline will be attached, ask us before the install and we will walk you through it.
If a strand or a section of your display stops working during the season, call us on (410) 977-4411 and we will arrange a visit to put it right. The details for your house are confirmed in your written quote.
Yes. Bravo Roofing is a licensed Maryland home improvement contractor, MHIC #114601, carrying $1,000,000 in liability coverage plus workers compensation. The same people who replace roofs across Baltimore are the ones on yours.
Earlier is better. Installation dates fill as the season gets closer, so calling in the fall gives you the widest choice of dates. Call (410) 977-4411 for the current schedule.
